Tribute ride planned to honour cycling duo

A memorial tribute ride will be held in remembrance of cycling duo Frans Duys (owner of Tour de Frans Cycles) and Janine Hopkins at Oriental City Atlas on December 7.
Starting time is 5am for 5.30am.
The pair was killed in the early hours of November 30 after being hit by a taxi which allegedly failed to stop at a robot in Isando.
The route will travel from North Rand Road, down Rondebult into Beyerspark. It will then go back up to North Rand Road, across Atlas Road, and deep into Benoni, going past the Benoni Country Club.
From there it is planned for the route to go down around Serengeti, back through towards O’Reilly Merry, up towards Great North to the top of Atlas Road and back down to the starting point.
Funeral service
The funeral service will be held tomorrow (December 6) at Northmead Methodist Church in Benoni at 10am.
Cyclists who wish to participate in a ride to the church are meeting at Benoni Northerns Sports Grounds at 9am.
