Drunken tractor driver accused of killing eight-year-old boy

It also emerged that the driver was drunk at the time of the incident.

A Caterpillar tractor driver was arrested and charged with culpable homicide after an eight-year-old boy was killed in an accident along Fish Eagle Street on November 25.

According to the Reiger Park police, their members responded to a report of an accident in Ramaphosa Extension One, and on arrival they noticed an unresponsive body lying next to the Caterpillar tractor.

Preliminary investigation indicated that the boy was playing football on the street before he was run over by the tractor, which was being driven by the 23-year-old Lesotho national. The boy was certified dead on the scene.

He was arrested and charged with culpable homicide, driving under the influence of alcohol and driving an unroadworthy vehicle.

He was scheduled to appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court soon.
