St Francis is shown love on Mandela Day
St Francis, again this year, received tremendous attention from Boksburg corporate companies and organisations visiting the centre to spend their 67 minutes on Mandela Day with the children.
The biggest contribution made to St Francis Care Centre was from Macsteel Service Centre in Lillianton, which donated R67 000 to the centre, R1 000 for every hour of the 67 minutes for Madiba.
The company also surprised the children with a Christmas in July-themed party in celebration of the former President’s birthday.
Group PRO for Macsteel, Candice Menoita, explained that making the donation of R67 000 again this year, is their attempt at creating a tradition of supporting charities that are within their community.
“This is also an acknowledgement of the good work that is done by everyone here at the centre, and our wish is to change the world one child at a time,” says Menoita.
Several companies arrived with food, clothes, toys and monetary donations in-hand as donations for the centre.
The assembly line of guests got longer as the day progressed, and visitors had to take turns playing with the children.
Visitors included representatives from MTN, ABSA, Life Rose Acres Hospital, Boksburg Library, DED, Hospital Equipment, Economic Development, PG Bison, NTL International, Boksburg Child Welfare, Chemetall, Woodlands International, St Dominics School for Girls, Christian Brothers College and representatives from Cash Build.
Cash Build representatives also got down and dirty as they re-painted the mini traffic signs used by the centre’s pre-schoolers.
St Francis Care Centre manager, Tilly Brouwer, said that she appreciated all the visitors on the day.
“We would especially like to thank Macsteel for their contribution, their friendship and support throughout the years.
“Today all the companies that visited the centre displayed the true spirit of Madiba,” said Brouwer.
