Young driver arrested for speedy return from a birthday party

Three drivers were also arrested on the N3 freeway direction south by Rand Airport off-ramp in Germiston for overly exceeding the speed limit.

Two speedsters were arrested on Saturday, November 16 following a speed enforcement operation between 5am and 9am in Boksburg, on the N12 freeway direction west by Atlas off-ramp.

Kobeli Mokheseng, EMPD spokesperson, said the 120km/h displayed speed limit regulatory sign was ignored by a 43-year old male driving a silver VW Polo.

“He was nabbed for clocking 172km/h, with no reason for speeding,” said Mokheseng.

“Then, a 21-year old male driver in a black BMW sedan with four passengers was arrested. He was apparently returning from a birthday celebration. The arrest was effected at 6.45am.”

He said both drivers were locked up at Boksburg North Police Station.

Charges of reckless and negligent driving were laid against the drivers. They are expected to appear in the Boksburg court soon.
