Airlock causes delay in water supply restoration following pipe burst

The Advertiser is still awaiting comment from the metro.

A burst main pipeline on the corner of Pretoria Road and Pieter Uys Street caused a major water outage in parts of Boksburg on November 15.

This is according to Ward 22 Clr Ruhan Robinson.

Due to an airlock in the pipe, water could only be restored on Saturday morning.

Morganridge, Witfield, Jansen Park, Boksburg West and parts of Eveleigh, among others, were affected by the burst pipe.

“Technicians from the water department were on the scene to repair a burst main pipeline,” said Robinson.

“After the pipe was fixed, the water valves were opened again and then they discovered that there was an airlock in the pipe. Therefore, water supply could only be restored on Saturday.”

The cause of the burst pipe is still unclear.
