Work overload delayed repairs to burst pipe

The metro has also urges Ekurhuleni residents to help conserve water.

Work overload is the reason why water technicians took days to attend to a massive water leak in Jansen Park, the metro said.

This comes after kilolitres of clean drinking water went to waste from a burst pipe on Edgar Road, Jansen Park.

Resident logged calls when they noticed the water wastage, but water continued to gush out of the burst pipe for days.

Explaining what prevented the metro from repairing the pipe in a flash, the metro spokesperson, Themba Gadebe, said: “The teams were overloaded with burst water pipes in the areas of Hughes, Jansen Park and Eveleigh due to excessive pressure on the network. This resulted in a slower than expected response time.”

The team started with repairs on the evening of October 17 and completed the repair the following morning.
