Audio: Drop donations for fire victims off at Impala Park Hall

At this stage it is not clear exactly when the donations will be distributed as the metro is still busy sorting out the donated items with the help of Red Cross.

Members of the City of Ekurhuleni are hard at work collecting necessities at the Impala Park Community Hall to help those affected by the devastating fire on September 30 at Pomona informal settlement in Kempton Park.

Those who would like to make donations can drop off items for the victims at Impala Park Hall every day from 8am to 8pm.

Listen to ward councillor André du Plessis’ comments on the matter in the two posted audio clips:

According to Thabo Tonga, chief social worker at the City of Ekurhuleni, they are collecting necessities, such as clothing and non-perishable foods.

“It is the purpose of the human to help others, so the metro is coordinating this project to assist all those affected by the fire in Kempton Park.

“Around 900 people were left homeless when a fire destroyed nearly 200 shacks in the Pomona informal settlement and we are trying our best to help where we can,” said Tonga.

“Donations are pouring in and my heart is warmed by the generosity of the community.

“From my side, I want to thank people for everything they have donated so far. I would also to like to encourage people to bring more donations as the fire was quite destructive and people are now in need of basic necessities. No donation is too small.”
