Reiger Park Community Forum aims to uplift their community

The expo, which was held at the Old Harambe Centre, brought together about 23 local businesses as well as key industry players under one roof.

The Reiger Park Community Forum in partnership with the Reiger Park Business Forum hosted their first Township Economic Empowerment and Business Expo on September 28.

Some of the invited mentors included Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (CIPS), Ekasi, Southern African Council of Black Businesses (SACOBB) and VW Kempton Park.

Members of both business forums used the opportunity to unveil the Old Harambe Centre as the Reiger Park Community Centre.

Representing Volkswagen Kempton Park was Ramone Ackerman and Lamon Smith at the Township Economic Empowerment and Business Expo held at the Old Harambe Centre on September 28.

Fana Peters, executive member of Reiger Park Business Forum and adviser of the Reiger Park community Forum, said: “The aim of the event was to show the community of Reiger Park that this building is for the community of Reiger Park.

“We also wanted to facilitate collaboration between various vendors from all sectors in the industry and the community. All the proceeds for today will go towards the maintenance of the centre.”

The business expo offered exhibitors networking opportunities and to showcase their products and services.

Nhlalala, Pumza and Malwandla Hlekane of Chamash Pharmacy displayed their products at the Township Economic Empowerment and Business Expo on September 28.

Peters said they plan to host monthly market days to boost local businesses.

Peters said the Harambe Community Development and Resource Centre, which was used as a youth empowerment centre, was handed over to the Reiger Park Business Forum over a year ago to be the custodians of the centre.

“Our main goal is to make the centre as a vital office to enable small businesses to work from here. We also want to have afternoon classes for learners and to assist local businesses for training needs.

Felicia Shabanga and Lee-Ann Sammering of Felicia Cleaning Products were some of the exhibitors at the Township Economic Empowerment and Business Expo.

“We also aim to have other activities which will help promote physical, cultural and the well-being of the community. The centre also aims to assist the community with projects such as social upliftment, social welfare support, social crisis and eliminating poverty,” Peters said.

Anyone who wishes to assist with contributing to the renovations or maintenance of the Reiger Park Community Centre is urged to contact Rosemary on 083 341 6465 or email reigerparkcf@gmail.com.
