Reservoir to be built in Witkoppie Ridge to alleviate water shortage

The Advertiser is still waiting for more information from the metro regarding the reservoir.

To alleviate water shortage in Witkoppie Ridge, the Ekurhuleni metro is planning to build a second reservoir in the area in a few months’ time.

Ward 17 Clr Simon Lapping confirmed to the Advertiser that the capacity of this reservoir will be about 10 million litres.

“The reason why a new reservoir was needed was that whenever there was an electricity outage, water would run out after five hours.

“Last year the metro brought in a generator so that when the power goes off the generator will then kick in to supply water.”

He said building another water reservoir will assist with calming anticipation of future supply risk and population growth due to urbanisation.

Lapping said a site camp will be set up in the next two weeks and construction is expected to take about 18 months.
