Public make welcome donation of second-hand books

The Boksburg Advertiser's plea for the donation of second-hand books have been met so far with a great response.

As part of Caxton’s #WeRead campaign under the banner of Caxton Cares, the Boksburg Advertiser recently made a plea for second-hands books to be donated.

Within a week the trolleys (marked by the #WeRead posters) at Pick n Pay Towers and also at the Atlas Mall SuperSpar were filled.

Collections ends on September 9, and the public is encouraged to keep on donating.

All books collected will be donated to a good cause.

Caxton Local Media is supporting this year’s National Book Week (NBW), which coincides with the SA Book Fair from September 6 to 8 at Constitution Hill.

Caxton editors are therefore committed to playing a part in helping local schools and organisations gain access to books as well as to sharing their love of reading and languages with the children in our communities.

Donating a book is one way to bridge the gap in learners’ access to reading material.

National Book Week

The NBW campaign, which runs from September 2 to 8, coincides with International Literacy Day on September 8 and will include 10 indigenous-language reading festivals in remote communities across the country to mark Unesco’s International Year of Indigenous Languages.

Book Awareness Week is dedicated to encouraging reading and promoting books.

Ensuring greater access to books for children is also the top priority for the South African Book Development Council (SABDC).

SABDC recently hosted a breakfast for potential partners and sponsors as the council works towards its goal to increase access to books for all South Africans.
