Residents frustrated at ‘poor’ quality work by municipal contractors

Frustration is at a boiling point over a hole that causes severe inconvenience to motorists and pedestrians.

Business operators in Lilianton have had enough of enduring stink of raw sewage leaking from a sewer line, and the danger posed by an open pit left by municipal contractors.

According to the frustrated business operators, following a series of complaints about a damaged underground sewer pipe outside their businesses along Main Reef Road, the metro finally sent its contractor to the area to fix the problem.

Early last month, the contractor appointed to carry out the repair work dug a hole next to the road to get access to the damaged sewer pipe, but left the hole wide open.

The hole had been left open for almost a month now, and it appears that the rubble that had made its way into the hole had damaged the new pipe – as untreated sewage was observed seeping from the hole.

Residents complained that the hole causes severe inconvenience to motorists and pedestrians.

Adding to the problem is the unbearable smell emanating from the hole.

Warning signs had been erected, but residents feel that it’s not enough to protect pedestrians, children in particular, from falling down the hole.

The affected business people claim that they have reported the problem, and municipal workers promised to send the contractor back to fix it, but they have been waiting since then.
