Young entrepreneurs collect sanitary pads with #21DaySkipRopeChallenge
Pads will be donated to various schools in Ekurhuleni and on every donation day a fun-filled day of skipping, menstrual education and much more will be held

Two young entrepreneurs, Thabo Mashaba and Tumisang Ratsipi, founders of #21DaySkipRopeChallenge, have taken the initiative to collect sanitary pads for underprivileged girls.
The two fitness gurus from Dawn Park run an online skipping rope-centred fitness programme aimed at losing weight, getting fit and having fun.
Mashaba said they decided to start the sanitary pad drive, called #21DayPadsChallenge, after they came across shocking statistics of schoolgirls who can’t afford sanitary pads.
“Thirty per cent of South African schoolgirls miss school because they can’t afford sanitary pads, so we wanted to change that by making a difference in our community. So we have started to skip rope to raise awareness about this problem,” said Mashaba.
The purpose of the challenge is to raise as many sanitary pads as possible in the 21-day duration running concurrently with their #21DaySkipRopeChallenge.
Ratsipi said they have encouraged the participants to donate two packs of sanitary pads when they enter the challenge.
“For 21 days, we call everyone in our network to donate pads for that particular month. June was our first month of collection and we have had a positive response from people,” Ratsipi said.
The two entrepreneurs highlighted that their first donation of the sanitary pads will be on Mandela Day.
