Three arrested for alleged fraud

The trio were arrested after they allegedly attempted to rob a 47-year-old man of R50 000 cash.

The Boksburg North SAPS arrested three men, aged between 20 and 36, for fraud in Katlehong on June 27.

According to Boksburg North SAPS spokesperson Const Justice Ramaube, the victim, who owns a business in Anderbolt, alleged that he was approached by the suspects claiming to be from the Department of Labour between March 27 and April 30.

“The complainant claims that the trio sent him a lot of forged documents stating that his company has not complied with policies. The complainant claimed to have asked why they were using a gmail account instead of a government email address,” Ramaube said.

Ramaube said during the suspects’ arrest, it was discovered that two of the suspects were 20 years old and were still in school.

It was also discovered that the 36-year-old suspect allegedly used the duo to steal money from people.

“The trio were detained at the Boksburg North SAPS. They are facing charges of fraud, extortion and impersonation.

“However, on June 28, one of the 20-year-old suspects was released on bail of R1 000.

“The remaining two will appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court for a formal bail hearing on July 3,” Ramaube said.

Boksburg North station commander Col Kumbulani Mbatha applauded Det Const Rodney Makwetja for the good job in arresting these suspects.
