The EMPD SWAT Unit members were on the afternoon of Tuesday, May 14 alerted by a local reaction officer about a vehicle displaying false number plates in the Boksburg area.
According to chief superintendent Wilfred Kgasago, EMPD spokesperson, the SWAT Unit members responded swiftly and arrested the suspect who was found in a vehicle with false number plates displayed on it.
“A further search of the vehicle revealed an unlicensed pistol with its serial numbers filed off. The arrest took place at the intersection of Kingfisher Road and Nicholson Street,” said Kgasago.

He said Inspector Robert Schultz and Constable Kershaw Stols of the EMPD SWAT Unit recognized the suspect as the same person they arrested on March 16 in Dawn Park for possession of two stolen vehicles – an Audi stolen in Hamanskraal and a BMW hijacked in Pretoria.
“A 9mm compact pistol with live ammunition was found in the suspect’s vehicle. The false number plates were super-imposed on the correct ones.”
He is expected to appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
