Unkempt grass which has not been cut since last year October is frustrating the residents of Daimler Avenue in Dawn Park.
According to one resident, Mafa Mavuso, who has been a resident of Dawn Park since 1993, the unoccupied piece of land was always maintained throughout the year up until 2015.
Mavuso said he reported the matter in 2015 at the metro customer care centre and again last year, around August.
He complained a second time and cleaners came by in a truck to tidy up.
However, he said they only cut the grass opposite his house and did not attend to the rest of the site.
According to metro spokesperson Themba Gadebe, the metro has graded part of the open field to create a temporary soccer field for the residents.
“Unfortunately, the soil that came from the graded ground sprouted weeds and is scheduled to be removed. In terms of the maintenance schedule, the grass in the area will be cut once a month,” Gadebe said.
