Officers charged with corruption granted bail

Two members of the Boksburg North SAPS who were arrested for corruption during a recent drug operation, were granted bail after appearing at the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 16 July.

According to Lieut Juanita Coetzer, communications officer for the Boksburg North SAPS, the police officers have been charged with extortion of money, possession of illegal substances, resisting arrest and negligent driving.

“The police members had made two other stops before being arrested at their third stop on the day,” she says.

Coetzer says that the Organised Crime Germiston (OCG) had been working with detectives from the Boksburg North SAPS when the arrest was made.

The officers were released on R2 000 bail each, and are expected to appear in court on August 15.
