Road sign thief sentenced

It is unclear as to what the man wanted to use the road sign for.

A 25-year-old road sign thief has been sentenced to three months’ imprisonment or a R3 000 fine.

On November 5 the Vosloorus man, Thabo Moloi, stole a yield sign mounted on a pole, property of Ekurhuleni municipality.

Moloi was arrested after a concerned member of the public reported the theft to authorities after spotting the accused stealing the pole.

The accused pleaded guilty, was found guilty and was sentenced on March 14 for the theft.

Moloi has no previous conviction and his sentence was wholly suspended for five years.

Road signage and manhole cover theft have become an increasing problem in Boksburg and across Ekurhuleni. It is believed that such stolen items are being sold to scrapyards.
