Take a shift from being useless to being useful
“Stop carrying other people’s hang-ups on their behalf and remember what is worth doing is worth doing well.” - Prof Stephan Joubert,
To ease off a bit after last month’s serious subject matter about a head transplant, East Rand Business Women let their hair down as they listened to an uplifting and inspirational talk.
The invited guest speaker was Prof Stephan Joubert, who spoke about being ‘useless to useful’ at the East Rand Business Women March meeting held at Summer Place.
“In order to be an effective ‘useless success’, you have to be yourself,” said Joubert.
“Max Lucado once said ‘You are the only you God made… God made you and broke the mould’. You are uniquely unique and that is why you must become the best you can.”
Joubert said as a person it was important to also unleash your potential.
“Know what you are good at and start doing it. The biggest enemy of good is great, and in order to shift from good to great, you have to stop doing things you are good at in order to excel at those things that you can do excellently.”
He highlighted some of the tips about how one could become useful and effective.
“Master the term ‘pyt’, which is expressed as an interjection in reaction to a hassle, frustration or mistake. The word ‘pyt’ was recently voted as the most popular Danish word.
“It is similar to an English saying, ‘don’t worry about it’, ‘stuff happens’, or ‘oh, well’. You might break a cup, shrug and say, ‘Pyt’.”
“You might see a long queue at the bank and instead of becoming frustrated, shake your head and say, ‘Pyt’. Then you can stop blaming others and just get on with life,” Joubert said.
