The Boksburg North’s Visible Policing Unit (Vispol), led by the station commander, Col Kumbulani Mbatha, made a big drug bust during a blitz on suspected property hijackers at Eveleigh Estate on March 6.
As part of the recently launched police operation called ‘Okae Molao’, the team descended on the property said to be hijacked by foreign nationals, including Nigerians and Congolese.
According to a spokesperson for the Ekurhuleni Central SAPS Cluster, Const Ntsako Ledwaba, drug dealers and property hijackers, as well as illegal immigrants and people found in possession of suspected stolen property, were arrested during the police sting.
A few hijacked units were handed back to their rightful owners, who are South African citizens, during the police sting.
The operation saw the arrests of five illegal immigrants, six men found in possession of drugs and two men believed to be dealing in drugs.
A motor vehicle, electrical iron, dagga, Cat and crystal meth drugs were confiscated from the suspects.
The value of all the confiscated items is estimated at R200 000.
The suspects are aged between 20 and 45. They will appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court once the investigation has been finalised.
