Man douses fiancée with paraffin, sets her alight

The suspect was charged with attempted murder and is scheduled to appear in court this week.

A woman, believed to be in her 20s, is fighting for her life at the Tambo Memorial Hospital after her live-in fiancé doused her with paraffin and set her alight.

According to Boksburg SAPS spokesperson, Const Ntsako Ledwaba, the incident happened in Angelo informal settlement on February 10.

Information gathered was that, before the vicious attack, the couple had a heated argument over the woman going to bed wearing a pair of leggings.

The fiancée suffered serious burns to the face and hands. Ledwaba said information gathered is that the mother of two children’s condition had slightly improved from what it was when she was admitted on February 10.

The 28-year-old man was eventually arrested on February 15 after Sgt Azwi Mphaphuli and Const Thabo Makomene pounced on him at his home in Angelo.
