The Advertiser recently received scores of phone calls from residents of Impala Park and Witkoppie Ridge complaining about the constant water supply disruption in their suburbs.
It is believed to be a water pump breakdown in the area.
When approached for comment, the municipality admitted the cause of the problem is a pump station failure at the reservoir site, adding the pump failure is caused by the constant power failures in the vicinity.
“It should be noted that the pump station is part of the Impala Park power grid. Therefore, if there is a power outage then the pump station is affected,” said metro spokesperson Themba Gadebe.
Gadebe said the municipality was in the process of procuring mobile diesel generators to assist in such emergencies in future.
“As soon as the metro becomes aware of the water supply interruption, crews are immediately dispatched to integrate the tower and reservoir zone to restore water supply in the affected areas.”
