Patients at House of Mercy enjoy sessions of meditation

The first step towards empowerment is stress-elimination and inner confidence.

In an effort to give back to the community, Cecile Morden has volunteered to offer free Breath Water Sound workshops to patients at House of Mercy Rehabilitation Centre.

This is a free course that seeks to address the challenges of economically and emotionally distressed communities by empowering them.

Morden started conducting classes from December 10 which will run for four days. Patients will be awarded certificates of participation.

The Eveleigh resident said she decided to run the workshops at House of Mercy because she lives near the centre and also because she wanted to give back to the community, especially now that she has finished her studies.

The course is endorsed by the Art of Living’s sister organisation, the International Association for Human Values. which offers peace building programmes that effectively transform the mindsets, attitudes and behaviour of individuals and communities engaged in or affected by conflict and violence.

Stephan Verwey, a patient at House of Mercy, said: “The workshops have been effective because they assist with relaxing. I feel more energised after a session of meditating than after a gym session.”

Another patient, Vika Dlongolo, said meditation assists him to forget things that have disturbed him mentally.
