Baby Connor needs urgent support for operation
Baby Connor would need to undergo an invasive head surgery at six months to correct the shape of his head.
On August 20 this year, Claire Mathew and Clinton Allers’ monthly prenatal checkup at 34 weeks turned out to be totally different than they expected.
After asking several medical questions, and a thorough examination, Claire’s doctor diagnosed her with a life-threatening pregnancy illness called preeclampsia.
Claire was booked into Roseacres Clinic maternity ward immediately. The parents had to accept that their baby boy will be born that afternoon.
“At 3.41pm our son was born weighing 2.160kg, he had no name. We had not decided on a name yet.
“As the baby came out he was battling to breathe. The baby was then rushed to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
“Clint, the father, was with the baby and I was all alone. Eventually, Clint came to me showing me pictures of our little guy. “He was perfect,” said Claire.
Claire spent the night feeling lost and alone, worrying about their tiny baby who had been born six weeks early.
The following morning Claire was taken to meet their son.
“That afternoon, we decided to name him Connor Allers. Our baby finally had a name 25 hours after birth.”
She was discharged from the hospital on August 24, and baby Connor spent a further week in the care unit.
When Connor was six days old, Claire noticed that their son’s head was misshapen (deformed).
The parents then received a call that would change their lives forever. It was confirmed the baby suffered from Sagittal Craniosynostosis syndrome (fusion of multiple sutures).
A specialist then told them that Connor would need to undergo an invasive head surgery at six months to correct the shape of his head in order for his brain to grow correctly.
“Once again we were in shock and disbelief but we took it in and decided we needed to be strong for Connor,” said Claire
The parents have endeavored to raise funds for the operation, which looms early next year.
