A frustrated Bartlett resident, who lives in Edwin Road, feels that her efforts of trying to get the municipality to build a traffic circle in Ridge Road have been ignored.
Tereza dos Santos claims that motorists who travel on Ridge Road travel at an excess of 120km/h and also on Elizabeth Road all the way to Atlas Road.
Dos Santos points to the shopping centre that was built five years ago and the fact that many motorists are using Ride Road as a shortcut to get to the R24 when there is a traffic congestion on the N12.
“Sometimes motorists don’t even have the decency to allow other motorists to drive into Edwin Road or drive out of that road.
“In the morning it’s actually worse because we spend minutes standing at the stop sign in Edwin Road trying to drive into Ridge Road but we can’t because the cars are always speeding.”
Dos Santos said on weekends she and other residents who live close to the centre would rather walk to the shops.

“We always witness accidents occurring in that road due to speeding motorists. One person died on this road about five years ago and on November 7, a woman was knocked by a car while crossing the road.
“Again, on November 11, the driver of the vehicle nearly collided with the walls of unit 13 and 14 of my complex. Luckily the poles were in the way.”
Dos Santos believes that the only way to calm the traffic in Ridge Road is for the metro to build a traffic circle and put yield signs and road signs that will indicate the travelling speed in that area.
“I have personally tried numerous times to bring it to the metro’s attention but unfortunately nothing gets done.”
The Advertiser is still waiting for comment from the metro.
