Star cyclist still in a critical condition following crash

Lynette Burger is the 2015 Cape Town Cycle Tour champion.

Boksburg’s star cyclist Lynette Burger remains in a steady but serious condition following a road accident on Wednesday, September 26.

Burger was hit by a taxi while cycling. The vehicle apparently failed to stop for a red traffic light in the early hours of Wednesday at the corner of Kingfisher Avenue and Rondebult Road.

She suffered punctures on both lungs, slight bleeding on the brain, a broken collarbone and all her ribs on her left side were broken.

Confirming an update to the Advertiser on Monday, October 1, Burger’s husband David Pieterse said: “She’s still sedated, the doctors say she’s in too much pain for them to do anything. She’s on the ventilator and most of her swelling has gone down.

“The last time I spoke to her was on Thursday. I’m waiting for a call from the doctors to know how much longer she’ll be sedated and to find a way forward.”
