Municipal officials reportedly told the community leaders that the metro is planning to build houses for the residents of Ramaphosa.
According to one of the community leaders, Sonnyboy Senala, they were, during a meeting with officials from the MMC for Human Settlement, told that a budget for houses in the area had already been allocated.
Senala, however, said they asked officials about the commencement date of the development but apparently no response was received.
“Officials told us that we must report to the community that they shouldn’t just fold their arms and wait for the government to do everything for them.
“They highlighted that community members should improve themselves in the meantime until the government meets their needs.”
Senala said they have requested the housing department to provide them with the database waiting list to verify if the beneficiaries are from the area.
Residents are demanding houses, electricity and water in the area.
Residents claim that for the past four years they had submitted memorandums to the municipality but the metro hadn’t responded to their pleas and no developments had taken place.
