Ex-girlfriend sentenced to five years’ imprisonment

She was found guilty and convicted for malicious damage to property.

The Vosloorus Magistrate’s Court sentenced a 41-year-old woman from Villa Liza to five years’ imprisonment for malicious damage to property.

Last year on April 22 at about 1pm the complainant, Themba Phunguswayo, left his house to go to the mall.

Later when he came back he found his shack on fire.

According to Constable Nkemeleng Mabula from the Dawn Park SAPS, the 41-year-old smashed the windows of her ex-boyfriend’s shack and then got inside the shack through the window.

“She then set the shack alight using paraffin,” Mabula said.

A case of malicious damage to property was opened at the Dawn Park SAPS and it was assigned to WO Dumisani Buthelezi.

The accused, Phindile Bengu, was subsequently arrested and her case was finalised on August 21.
