Watch: High tea raises funds for Chereez’s treatment
The family is now heading for America for a period of up to four months.
A special high tea was hosted in honour of cancer patient Chereez Nel (3) at Summer Place on August 25.
The family is in dire need of funds to cover all the medical treatment that their little girl requires.
Summer Place was kind enough to make a venue available with tea and snacks to celebrate a community coming together to help Chereez.
The event was a lovely morning that raised funds, hope and a sense of support for the Nel family.
“The high tea flared up into a fabulous morning all thanks to the amazingly talented Samantha Leonard,” said Angelique, Chereez’s mother.
Chereez was diagnosed with undifferentiated soft tissue sarcoma cancer stage three.
There are two types of radiation therapy that Chereez can receive. The first therapy is called IMRT and the second is Proton. Both these therapies have side effects that include visual problems.
Proton therapy is only available in the USA with costs running into the millions.
After several fund-raisers, Angelique posted a heartfelt message on Chereez’s Facebook page.
“An ‘angel’ has come forward and lent us the remaining amount required to get Chereez to the USA for treatment as they are aware that we are quickly running out of time as she needs Proton therapy promptly.”
The family still need to pay the money back through ongoing fund-raising.
“We are overwhelmed to announce that our flights are booked and we are off with our little fighter on August 30 to the USA.”
The Facebook page (Little Fighter Chereez Nel) posts updates.
A non-profitable fund has also been set up to help Chereez. Contact Pieter on 071 851 3012 for more information.
“We believe that our daughter will fight this cancer with all she has and through prayers, we believe she will be healed,” said Angelique.
