Reiger Park residents enjoy free health screening
Equatel specialises in telemedicine and digital health-care services.
Equatel Health, a UK-based company, in conjunction with the local Reeby Group organised a four-day pop-up clinic from August 14 to 17 at the Reiger Park Civic Centre.
Free health checks for all ages were offered to the community.
Residents from Ramaphosa, Joe Slovo and Reiger Park were screened by the nurses Sister Leah Lance and Sister Hazel Pieterse for blood pressure, heart rate, temperature and blood sugar.
Mo Grunberg, Equatel’s senior project manager, said: “We provide health care globally, specifically targeting rural areas throughout the world’s emerging markets. Here in South Africa we’ve led successful health initiatives for the past six months.”
Grunberg said the initiative is aimed at raising health awareness and showcasing the tremendous impact and value digital medicine will offer as it becomes more widespread.
“Over the course of the week we’ve engaged with many people who are undiagnosed or simply unaware of their basic health status. It is imperative for people to know where they stand with their health,” Grunberg said.
Cyril Reeby, managing director of Reeby Group, which specialises in health, procurement and logistics, said: “People are not aware of what it means to know their vitals in order for them to be considered to be in good health.”
Both the nurses and the entire event staff used the opportunity to encourage and educate residents to frequently check their health.
Grunberg said Equatel’s solutions include patient point-of-access, on-site diagnostics, e-prescriptions and digital medical records management.
