
• A gang of thieves forced their way into a business located on Main Reef Road and stole computers and a camera worth thousands of rand.
This was during the early hours of August 10. It was later found that the thugs broke a window to gain entry.
• In Parkrand, thieves forced opened the gate of a property and stole a generator from the garage on the night of August 10.
The property owners told the police that they were woken up by a commotion coming from outside before they went to check and noticed three men leaving the property with the generator.
• A Sunward Park couple told the police that they had left their home on August 12 and went to hospital, but when they returned home the following day they discovered that their property had been burgled.
Thieves forced open one of the windows to enter the property and stole a microwave, TV set and a DVD player.
• In Angelo informal settlement, thieves targeted one of the residents’ shacks and stole speakers and a solar energy system consisting of a solar panel and battery on August 12.
The stolen solar energy system forms part of the thousands of solar systems the municipality handed out to the informal settlement residents a few months ago.
Community leaders told the Advertiser that thieves have already stolen hundreds of the energy systems, and the thefts appear to be an ongoing problem.
