The Ekurhuleni metro will continue to strife to create environmentally friendly spaces in residential and industrial areas.
According to Themba Gadebe, for this reason there is a litter picking levy.
“Waste removal is a key service to the ratepayers to ensure that they live in clean environment. The service is paid for through waste removal tariffs and other special tariffs such as bulk containers removal and sundry tariff for animal carcass removal,” said Gadebe.
“In built-up areas, however, such as industrial areas and town CBDs, there is more litter that the metro is required to clean outside of the ratepayers’ properties.
“The cleaning is therefore done through litter picking and cleaning streets. To ensure that continuation of this services is safeguarded, the metro charges industrial area and business property owners a litter picking levy.”
He pointed out that this levy of R0,1146 per m2 of the property area for service rendered is charged for normal litter picking service in the identified business/industrial erven to keep the area clean.
“A maximum of R2,301.91 per month can be charged in spite of the waste generated by the individual properties.”
He also stressed the litter picking service takes place at least once per week.
