Four men try their luck at the Van Dyk Park ATMs

The suspects' plans were foiled, leaving them fleeing the scene empty handed.

In the early hours of July 3, four armed suspects tried to break open the Standard Bank and Nedbank ATMs at the Van Dyk Park Shopping Centre.

According to Constable Nkemeleng Mabula, from Dawn Park SAPS, a security guard at the centre said he notice the men entering the premises.

“The men allegedly started threatening him and they then took him to a corner and tied him up. The suspects then started grinding the ATM to gain access.”

Mabula said while the suspects were busy, another member of the security personnel, who came to conduct a routine check in the centre, spotted them.

No shots were fired.

The police are investigating a case of attempted business robbery.
