Support Zama’s vision of youth empowerment by donating a computer

It is the passion of this Windmill Park resident to teach each and every young and older person about the world of IT.

An IT graduate wants to make a difference in the lives of young people in Windmill Park, but she needs support.

Zama Mbuyisi’s hunger to know more about computers convinced her to study IT at Richfield Graduate Institute of Technology.

In 2008 she discovered her career path was hindered by not knowing the basics of a computer. This led her to complete her diploma.

“I studied IT because I saw the importance of knowing how computers operate,” said Mbuyisi.

“When I grew up we didn’t have a computer at home. At school there were also no computers. I had never touched a computer in my whole life. If I knew the basics of operating a computer I would have got a scholarship.”

The 29-year-old said after finishing her two-year diploma, she looked for a job but without any success.

“After a year of being unemployed, I then got an opportunity to be part of an internship programme in Sandton where I acquired more skills in the IT world.”

In 2013 she stayed in KwaZulu-Natal where she worked at an internet café.

“While I was working there I saw a need to teach people about computers because they knew nothing. I then launched a programme for Grade Six and Seven learners where I taught them the basics of computers.

“At that time I was using my laptop. I must say the programme was a success. Learners were exposed to another world of technology.”

Mbuyisi said in Windmill Park she has identified a need to teach people about computers.

“Problem is that many homes in Windmill Park do not have computers. If they had a computer at home they can learn to do things on their own, which makes it easier for them when they want to apply for jobs because already they have knowledge on how to operate computers.”

Anyone who is willing to donate a computer, even a second hand one, may contact Zama on 073 620 8601.
