Jazz Workshop Club’s fund-raisers empower the community

The Vosloorus Jazz Workshop Club is comprised of 17 members (three women and 14 men).

The Vosloorus Jazz Workshop Club held its third fund-raising event at the ERPM Golf Club on Sunday, May 20.

The club gives back to the community in various ways with funds generated at its fund-raisers.

The annual event was its third in as many years.

The club’s deputy chairman, Boyce Tagane, said: “We undertake social responsibility programmes. For example, in terms of jazz music, we create a platform for up-and-coming jazz artists as well as visual arts artists.

“One of the things the club has done is buy a wheelchair for an avid jazz music fan named Mabayeni Ndaba, who was hit by a stroke and is now wheelchair-bound.

“We’ve also contributed CDs to Kasi FM, just to list a few things the club has done.”

According to Tagane, the club began when its members, most of whom are friends, would get together for their jazz music birthday celebrations before they decided to formalise the meetings into a club. The club was formed in 2009.

Sponsors that helped make the event possible were Mncedisi Ndlovu Sedumedi (MNS) Attorneys, Raceview Motors Alberton, Unique Feet and Casa do Campo.

Prizes were offered after the day’s proceedings.
