Child Welfare’s charity shop needs premises

The shop has in the past proven to be most valuable to bring in funding

Did you know that charitable donations to Boksburg Child Welfare can bring in as much as R10 000 a month?

This was the case when the organisation operated a charity shop in Trichardts Road up until two years ago.

The shop was initially closed because they were without a shop assistant but they vacated the premises a short time later on request of the landlord, who wanted to carry out renovations.

Since then, several issues have prevented them from again occupying the premises but the board members of child welfare are in the process of trying to resolve these issues with the landlord.

The director of Boksburg Child Welfare, Vanessa Naidoo-Pillay, said they used to make up to R10 000 a month with the sale of donated goods at their charity shop.

“These funds are essential to sustaining our wide range of services and projects. Even though we currently don’t have a physical charity shop, we still desperately need donations of second-hand items and these can be dropped off at our offices or we can arrange to collect them.”

As it is clearly valuable to the organisation and an interim to long-term solution, Boksburg Child Welfare would greatly welcome new premises on which they could open a charity shop.

If anyone is able to let suitable premises to them at a reasonable cost per month, they are requested to get in touch with the organisation.

  • Donations

In the meantime, the organisation wants to reiterate that donations are still very needed as these are being sold at informal jumble sales around Boksburg in an effort to continue raising much-needed funds to support child welfare’s projects in the greater Boksburg area.

“Until we can again open our charity shop, the public is urged to keep supporting us with donations,” said Vanessa.

She said they had a stall at the Bokkie Park Easter Food and Craft Market on March 31, which proved very popular among shoppers and now plan to be at the market on the first Saturday of each month from now on.

“We thank the organisers for extending an invitation to us to be part of this popular market each month and look forward to lots more visitors to our stall.

“Bric-a-brac, especially household items, were very popular at the market so we definitely need more of these types of donations.”

Any unwanted items in good condition are welcome.

Boksburg Child Welfare is situated next to the town hall on the corner of Trichardt Road and Commissioner Street, in the CBD.

Anyone who can help with donations or has suitable premises at which they can operate a charity shop should contact Vanessa on 011 039 4679 or nesnaidoo@yahoo.com
