Tempest at the helm of the ‘rebirthed’ Aerotropolis Chamber of Commerce

Berick Tempest takes over the reigns from another Boksburg business owner, Wayne Newton

The greater Boksburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry reached a milestone on Tuesday, March 27 when it officially became known as the Aerotropolis Chamber of Commerce.

The new president of this chamber is well-known businessman Beric Tempest.

Beric hails from a family of business people well and truly entrenched in Boksburg.

His father, Alan Tempest, started and managed Alan’s Man Shop for decades in Boksburg while his brothers manage a successful business which spans Africa.

Beric owns numerous properties in Boksburg North including a lodge, wedding centre, transport business and a business café which is set to open in May 2018.

According to Derek Fox, executive committee member of the Chamber, Wayne steered the chamber through a testing business climate.

“With Beric at the helm, we look forward to massive growth and a change and repurpose within the Chamber. Envisioned is ground-breaking networking opportunities and a cohesive knitting together of business opportunities for all businesses in the greater Ekurhuleni and Aerotropolis region,” said Fox.

“We congratulate Beric on his election and look forward to his year.”

Tempest said the change of name was necessitated by the vision for the chamber to broaden its service holistically, therefore creating more networking opportunities for companies and businesses throughout Ekurhuleni.

“We have sort of placed ourselves in a box by being primarily focussed on Boksburg. We need to realise Boksburg is part of the Aerotropolis, which envisions opening corridors of opportunity right throughout Africa.

“We are hoping to facilitate the process where companies do make use of the opportunities presented by the Aerotropolis.

“We will continually ask the question of what can we do to add value for businesses and companies. Part of this value will be networking evenings.”

Tempest, who is also part of the Boksburg North Initiative and the Boksburg North Aerotropolis Food and Craft Market, said the Chamber will be on the forefront of Boksburg North enjoying a commercial facelift.

At the same event, Carol Ova accepted the nomination as president-elect of the Chamber.

“This is quite significant as Carol will be the first woman to take over the Presidency,” said Fox.

Ova is also a business owner in Boksburg and Ekurhuleni. She iso a long standing executive board member of the Greater Boksburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry, now Aerotropolis Chamber of Commerce,

The Aerotropolis management team consists of Beric Tempest (president); Wayne Newton (immediate past president) and Carol Ova (president-elect).

The other members making up the Exco are Derek Fox, Dr Eric Khoza and Wendy Skeens, with one board nomination still outstanding and ready to be filled.

Esther van Zyl continues in her role as the Chamber manager.
