Three nabbed for selling an elephant tusk in Boksburg

The tusk was being sold for R300 000.

Three male suspects were arrested for possession of an elephant tusk on March 31.

According to Capt Juanita Coetzer, communications officer at the Boksburg North SAPS, the arrest followed a joint operation between the ECC Task Team, Crime Intelligence and EMPD Swat.

Officers pounced on the suspects in the parking area of the East Rand Mall where they were trying to sell the tusk for about R300 000.

“Undercover officers set up the deal as possible buyers,” said Coetzer.

“The SAPS are investigating the matter to find out where the tusk came from.”
