Few crimes reported over the Easter weekend

Violent crime and property-related crime tend to spike during long weekends, but such was not the case in 2018.

The Boksburg and Reiger Park police say their respective precincts saw a decrease in reported serious crimes during the Easter long weekend compared to previous years.

The Boksburg SAPS crime reports show that police responded to a few petty crimes and serious incidents.

These include two burglaries, one discharging of a firearm, several common assaults, reckless driving, driving under the influence of alcohol and a few thefts of motor vehicles.

No murder, rape or house robbery cases were reported over the weekend.

The Reiger Park police told the Advertiser that compared to other long weekends, the Easter long weekend was somewhat quiet.

Police reportedly responded to only a few common assault complaints and other minor offences in the precinct.

Both police stations attributed the quiet nature of Easter weekend to the intensified police visibility in most of the identified crime hot spots. -@MthuphaFanie
