Manhunt launched after shop owner is shot dead

While the victim was lying on the floor, the robber fired another shot at him and he died on the scene

Boksburg police have launched a manhunt for the gang of men who shot and killed a shop owner during a robbery at his general dealer in Angelo informal settlement.

According to the Boksburg SAPS spokesperson Sgt Cebisa Maseko, at about 7.30 pm on Monday, February 19, four men entered the business, known as Angelo Supermarket, and one of them aimed a firearm at the shop owner.

The gunman then shot the shop owner in the stomach.

The thugs looted the shop, stealing an undisclosed amount of money, airtime and cigarettes. They were seen fleeing the scene on foot.

* The Boksburg police are also investigating an attempted murder case after a gunman and his accomplice opened fire on a resident of Freeway Park while he was driving in the street in which he lives on February 19.

The victim escaped unharmed and the motive for the shooting remains unclear.

Station commander Col Daniel Baloyi is appealing for information about both incidents.
