Canadian shares her African dream with Rotary Club

Belliveau's visit is almost over and she will be returning to Canada soon - but she will surely not be forgotten by those she touched during her stay in South Africa.

Pat Belliveau, from Canada, recently visited the Rotary Club of Boksburg to share her experiences of being in South Africa with Rotarians.

The 62-year-old is a retired post office employee and lives in Sackville, Canada.

While visiting South Africa she spent three months working as a volunteer at the Angel of Hope Community Care Centre in Windmill Park.

According to Belliveau, when she was young she always wanted to come to Africa and work at a crèche.

However, “life happened” and she started a good job, got married and had a family of her own.

“The idea never left my mind though, but I did put it on the back-burner.

“When I retired, I knew I would still like to work at a crèche in Africa and my decision was supported by my two adult children,” Belliveau said.

The first day Belliveau arrived at the centre she fell in love with the children.

She received 30 Rotary Club of Boksburg school bags, packed with stationery, to distribute among little ones who are ready to go to school.
