Licencing official made my mom cry

'The consultant shouted at my mom continuously'

“Anneke”, Van Dyk Park, writes:

We live in an era where taking pride in your job is something of the past, especially when you’re a government employee.

It is so rare to find that special government employee that has a passion for his/her job.

Sadly, we expect very bad service from these employees and long droopy faces. One would think that we are all happy to have our jobs. These employees must obviously hate their jobs.

We still arrive hopeful that we would be served by that one rare person that still has the true understanding of passion, customer care and commitment, or even just a smile to light up the room.

I would like to share my mom’s experience at Boksburg Licencing Department with everyone.

Arriving at the help desk, my mom greeted the consultant. He ignored her like she was trash. He looked through all her documents and told her the one document was wrong. He gave it back to her and let her through to be served.

We know for a fact that all her documents were right. She made peace with the fact that the consultant at the help desk was rude … I guess that is what we expect these days.

In my opinion, the person at the help desk is the first person you deal with. Surely he must be the “face” of the department. He should be friendly, patient, welcoming and helpful. The true horror only happened when my mom went for her eye test.

The consultant never instructed my mom on how the test works.

My mom kept on giving the wrong answers because she did not understand, due to a lack of instruction.

In my opinion, you cannot scream at somebody if they get the answer wrong. She chased my mom away and told her to bring back a letter from the optometrist.

Why on earth are they allowed to speak … oh sorry … I mean scream at anybody? Who do they think they are?

My mom was so embarrassed and humiliated that she burst into tears when she left the room.

I am absolutely disgusted at the licencing department!
