Two people were recently shot as a result of negligent handling of a firearm.
According to Boksburg North SAPS communications officer, Capt Juanita Coetzer, the sector vehicle received a complaint from the taxi rank in Bentel Avenue, Jansen Park at about 6.10pm on February 5.
“Upon arrival, taxi drivers told the officers that the queue marshal had taken out a firearm and it had discharged,” said Coetzer.
“Two people were injured – a man and a woman, one in the upper body and the other in the lower body – and transported to hospital.
“The owner of the firearm had allegedly left it under the seat in his taxi, and when the marshal took it out, the firearm discharged,” Coetzer explained.
“Two attempted murder dockets were opened, and the owner and the marshal were arrested and detained at Boksburg North SAPS.”
