Copper cable stash found in veld

Suspects managed to flee

Boksburg North police officers found a total of 47 cleaned copper cables in the veld in Witfield while out on patrol in the early hours of the morning on January 22.

Boksburg North SAPS spokesperson Juanita Coetzer said Sergeant Nick Muller and Sgt Gerhard Diedericks spotted two suspicious looking men next to the railway line in Abrahamson Street.

“The officers called for assistance from another vehicle. Sgt Sibusiso Ndlela and Constable Siyabonga Hadebe came to assist and began to chase the suspects, but they ran into the bushes and disappeared.”

Coetzer said the officers then went back to where they found the men and discovered the stash of cleaned copper cables in the veld.

The cables were booked in at Boksburg North Police Station.
