Murder suspect nabbed next day

Quick-thinking members of the newly formed Reiger Park Crime Intelligence Unit on Sunday, November 12 arrested a suspect for the murder of a man who was gunned down in his shack the previous day.

Skhumbuzo Dyani (34) was shot twice in the head and died on the scene.

Police confirmed they found five spent cartridges and two projectiles on the scene.

“Our members immediately launched an intelligence-driven operation which resulted in the arrest of a 36-year-old man in Joe Slovo informal settlement,” said Reiger Park SAPS spokesperson Sgt Mashudu Phathela.

“Investigations led members to the suspect’s shack. He was inside and we found a 9mm pistol with its serial number filled off. In addition, officers searched the shack and discovered nine live rounds and 37 projectiles.

“The suspect was charged with the murder and for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

“The suspect is well known as a dangerous person whom the community fears,” Phathela added.

The suspect is expected to appear in court this week.- @FanieFLK
