According to DA shadow MMC for economic development in Ekurhuleni, Mathew Cuthbert, the DA welcomes new investment to revive Ekurhuleni’s failing economy, but they question the secrecy surrounding the two bids totalling R800-million.
“For the first time the metro has attracted an international investor for their books who took R650-m of the
R800-m that was available for private placement.
“The remaining R150-m was taken up by a local investor. When the MMC for economic development Doctor Xhakaza was questioned regarding the names of the investors in the interest of transparency, Xhakaza refused to answer the question.
“We are concerned if Ekurhuleni is becoming the new home for the nefarious deeds by South Africa’s number one family,” Cuthbert said.
The Advertiser is still waiting for the metro’s response regarding this matter.
