According to Themba Gadebe, spokesperson for the metro, a security company is patrolling the hot spot areas at night.
“However, it has been noted that as soon as the patrol vehicle’s pass the area the transgressors cut of poles and steal everything,” Gadebe said.
According to Ward 32 Clr candidate Marius de Vos, this has been found in Trichardts and Campbell roads and Railway Street.
He believes criminals are selling the street light poles to scrapyards.
