They were reacting to the allegations of a teenager who claimed she was raped at the depot, on the corner of Trichardts and Voortrekker roads, on October 23.
The 17-year-old teenager, from Impala Park, who was reportedly dropped off at the depot by her mother at about 5.30am to catch a bus to her school in Edenvale, claimed she was injected in the arm with an unknown substance and raped after a man kicked the toilet door open.
The Ekurhuleni metro spokesperson, Themba Gadebe said the depot’s details of the matter are sketchy as they don’t have a first-hand account of what had happened.
“What we have been advised of is that there are parents who drop-off their children as early as 5am at the gate of the depot, on their way to work. They have an arrangement with the security staff to allow the children into the depot for security reasons,” said Gadebe.
Gadebe said this arrangement has its pros and cons since the depot is not a public place.
“Since the depot caters only for scholar transport, the presence of children at the Boksburg bus depot is an exception made for children who come too early for their school transport.”
He said the EMPD are not aware of the alleged rape and that the camera surveillance at the depot is limited to the cash handling section of the ticket offices.
“At this stage, we can only surmise that the alleged victim may have been one of the school children that was dropped-off early for the scholar transport service.
“To this end, we continue to investigate the matter from our side so that we can have all the facts as well as look at what we can do to assist on the matter, through referral to the EMPD as well as arranging counselling services for the affected learner.
“We shall voluntarily assist by providing the necessary information on the matter once our investigations have borne fruit in this regard.”
The SAPS’ Child Protection Unit is investigating the rape and no one has been arrested in connection with the incident.
