Glittering Cansa East Rand gala fund-raiser a roaring success

A fund-raising evening was held on October 7 at the Birchwood Hotel’s OR Tambo Conference Hall, in aid of the Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa).

The gala evening, themed “Bedazzle your Bra” and organised by Cansa East Rand, was attended by over 100 people dressed to the nines.

A total of R50 000 was raised.

Guests and Cansa East Rand representatives gave talks on cancer, including information about the available support for survivors.

With his excellent performance, singer Timothy Moloi kept the audience entertained throughout the event.

The evening also served as the official launch of the organisation’s Relay for Life Eastern Gauteng event, which is set to take place on March 9 and 10, next year, at the Boksburg Stadium.

Two of the event organisers, Sonia Pretorius and Yolandi Jacobs, described the fund-raiser as an absolutely wonderful, fun-filled event and an exciting opportunity for the local community to come along and learn more about Cansa East Rand’s projects.

The main sponsors of the evening were Nando’s and Dazelle Venter, from Be-Dazzled.

Nando’s sponsored R28 000, while Venter sponsored all the dresses and Bedazzled bras.

The occasion was also graced by the presence of Mrs South Africa Charity, Claire Gardiner.

The programme included a special performance by Timothy Moloi as well as performances by Belly Dancing at Tiffanys and the Learn to Fly Russian Ballet Academy of SA ballerinas.

Also in attendance were Mr South Africa, Armand du Plessis, and Mrs South Africa Charity, Claire Gardiner.

Marius van Biljon of the Ekurhuleni Business Initiative was the master of ceremonies.

Cansa East Rand also honoured its Hero of the Month, Lulu Barnard, for her strength, bravery and inspiration during her fight against cancer.

Supporters are reminded that the Cansa Relay for Life entries will open in November and early-bird registrations will run until December. -@FanieFLK
