Watch: Cops destroy alcohol worth thousands of rand

The Reiger Park police recently destroyed about two thousand litres of confiscated alcohol in their storage facility.

Police disposed of the huge cache of booze by pouring it down the drain at the police station.

The alcohol – worth thousands of rand – was seized from illegal shebeens during separate raids on unlicensed taverns in Reiger Park, Ramaphosa and Delmore informal settlements in the hope of making those communities a safer place.

Reiger Park SAPS spokesperson Sgt Mashudu Phathela said in their policing precinct alcohol is seen as being the largest contributing factor to anti-social behaviour and other crimes including domestic violence and assault.

The crates of empty bottles were taken back to the breweries.

Police officers tipped about two thousands litres of confiscated booze down the drain. The alcohol was confiscated from shebeens across Reiger Park SAPS policing precinct. From left: Sgt Clifford Mongwe, Capt Zakhele Dladla and France Lekola.
