Neighbour shot in Ridge Road complex robbery dies

The 57-year-old man who was shot during a house robbery at the Royale Ridge residential complex in Ridge Road, Bartlett, has died.

According to the Boksburg North SAPS communications officer, Capt Juanita Coetzer, the victim succumbed to his injuries and died in hospital on Saturday morning, September 2.

Netcare 911 responded to reports of a shooting at the complex on Friday morning, September 1.

The complainant was inside the house with her son and domestic worker and the gardener was working outside, at around 11am.

“When she opened the door and called the gardener for lunch, she noticed he was not alone,” said Coetzer.

“Two unknown males were with him and they forced themselves into the house and demanded everyone sit down.”

One of the suspects pointed a firearm at them and instructed them to go to the main bedroom.

The suspects demanded jewellery and also demanded the complainant open the safe.

While she was busy with the safe, they heard gunshots.

The suspects took the safe, which was not bolted down, and the safe keys and fled the property. The safe contained paperwork, watches and jewellery.

When the complainant came out of the house, she found a neighbour had been shot twice in his upper body.

An ambulance was summoned and he was taken to hospital.

The neighbour had apparently noticed the suspicious men in the complex and gone outside to investigate when he was shot.

A witness saw a silver VW Golf 7, with three occupants, being used as the getaway vehicle.

A case of murder and house robbery is under investigation.

No arrests have been made.
